Stay announced as the very first local organisation to be featuring on the new official MONOPOLY: Telford & Wrekin Edition!
Telford charity Stay will be starring on its very own Community Chest space in the game, out October 2025.
“A huge congratulations to Stay. We are delighted to announce them onto the board,” says Ben Ladd Gibbon, UK Custom Games Partnership Manager at Winning Moves UK, who is producing MONOPOLY: Telford & Wrekin Edition board under license from Hasbro, a leading games, IP and toy company.
Stay is a local charity, based in Telford, that provides vital support to vulnerable and homeless people in the borough of Telford & Wrekin.
It was set up more than 30 years ago and has supported thousands of people when they had nowhere else to turn to.
Earlier this year, Winning Moves UK announced that Telford and Wrekin is getting a customised version of the world’s most popular board game. At the time, the public was invited to suggest landmarks to fill the board. Ironbridge and Telford Theatre were amongst the borough’s crown jewels, which were reported at the time as being popular suggestions amongst the public.
In all, 30+ Telford landmarks and favourites will feature in the game, replacing the likes of ‘Mayfair’ and ‘Park Lane’ from the classic MONOPOLY, which is in its 90th year!
Stay’s CEO Naomi Pay says: “We are thrilled to be featured on the new MONOPOLY: Telford and Wrekin Edition game. It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to raise awareness of homelessness and Stay – and to connect with even more people in our local community.
“Stay supports brighter futures, and last year alone, 149 people who were sleeping rough were helped by us. We provided 144 people with a safe and secure place to call home in our 78-bed spaces, and 28 tenants moved on to live independently.“
“We are sure this new game will be a great hit with our team and clients, as well as local families and people with links to this wonderful area.”
Naomi, along with Sam Haydon, Fundraising Manager, went on to attend the official game launch on 16th October and met Mr Monopoly himself!
Sam was later invited onto BBC Radio Shropshire to talk about the campaign to secure Stay’s place on the board.
Sam said, “It’s not lost on us that Monopoly is a game about homes, money and the ups and downs of life. It feels strangely appropriate for Stay to be on the Monopoly board.
“We hope our name on the board will spark the curiosity of the people playing and maybe prompt them to check Stay out and open the door to raising awareness and learning about homelessness locally, and possibly supporting our work. It’s a great way for Stay to reach more people, and we’re very proud to be featured.”
