Homeless Outreach

Our outreach team is out in the community of Telford and Wrekin every day and every evening, identifying and connecting with people who are at risk or already sleeping rough.

How do we help?

Immediate support

We work in partnership with Telford and Wrekin Council and other organisations to identify people who are sleeping rough and need support.

Practical help

We provide immediate help with the essentials, including a kit with a sleeping bag, mobile phone, food and water, and warm clothing, along with advice on staying safe.

A friendly face

We offer a consistent, non-judgmental point of contact for anyone living on the streets.

Advice & support

We work with people who are rough sleeping to understand their rights, access services and find accommodation.

Frequently asked questions

Here are our most commonly asked questions. If you still have questions or want more information on the services we offer, do not hesitate to reach out.

I am homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in the UK. What do I do?

In England, your council must help if you’re legally homeless or will become homeless within 8 weeks. Help may include advice, emergency housing or longer-term housing. Contact your local council or check our Get Support page for more information about help in the Borough of Telford & Wrekin.

How do I know if I am legally homeless?

You may be legally homeless if:

  • You have no legal right to live in accommodation anywhere in the world.
  • You cannot get into your home, for example, because your landlord has locked you out.
  • It’s not reasonable to stay in your home, for example, if you’re at risk of violence or abuse.
  • You are forced to live apart from your family or the people you normally live with because there’s no suitable accommodation for you.
  • You are living in very poor conditions, such as overcrowding.

What causes people to become homeless?

Homelessness is a hugely complex problem. It is often caused by multiple interconnected issues in somebody’s life, including poverty, housing issues, poor mental health, domestic abuse, substance misuse, childhood trauma, neurodiversity challenges, unemployment, illness, bereavement, and relationship breakdowns, to name a few.

At Stay, we have a person-centred approach to our services – providing a safe and secure place to call home to those with a support need whilst providing the help they need to overcome their personal challenges.
